Hostgator Hosting Review
The main problem with choosing a web host isn't finding one. Nope. The problem you're gonna bump into is that there are waaaaaaaay too many of them out there and the more choices you give a person the tougher it is for them to make up their mind. Added to that every single web host tells you that they're the best and well.....it just makes making a choice a whole lot harder right?
The reality is that you have to go through a few crappy web hosts before you find a company that:
1. You like.
2. Delivers what they promise.
HostGator checks both of these boxes for me and that's why I'm passing on the word here.
Hostgator the company came into being in 2002 in the bedroom of Brent Oxley. It 8 short years the company has grown from a home based business to managing over 7,000 servers and handling 1% of the worlds Internet traffic. 1% might seem small but taken into account there are just about 2 billion Internet users on this planet right now that's an insane amount of traffic really!
Anyways back to the my experience of them (now that you know a bit of company background). I've been using Hostgator now for about 6 years give or take and in that time they've never stopped me being happy. Or given me reason to change hosting to somewhere else. A combination of their pricing and their excellent customer and technical support has made me a loyal and happy customers for the last few years.
I have a reseller hosting account with Hostgator (I build A LOT of websites) and the server has run almost flawlessly for the last 6 years. Actually I'm sitting here trying to think of a time I had a major outage and I'm 99.9% sure that's never happened. Don't get me wrong all servers experience a small amount of downtime but in my case it's been so small I've not even noticed.
Hostgator Support
What's their support like? Excellent! As with most companies now I get the impression that some (maybe all?) their support has been outsourced to India or maybe the Philippines BUT I've never had any issues that weren't resolved very quickly and very professionally. So support gets two thumbs up from me!
Their pricing is also very, very competitive for the standard of service and support that you get. Oh I know you can get hosting for $1 per month. Yeah it's great until you try to a question answered or something goes wrong. Been there and done that folks - if you pay peanuts you get monkeys. Hostgator offer a couple different packages with something to suit almost every budget. To be honest folks if you can't afford $4.95 per month for a web hosting account.....you probably shouldn't be online!
